Nigeria has been removed from the list of nations where applicants must provide proof of English competency by Athabasca University in Canada.
Dr. Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi, a Nigerian professor who lives in Canada,
proferrs this solution for Nigerians who want to study in Canada win another triumph.
Meanwhile after Dr. Igblajobi wrote a letter of protest to the school
listing the reasons why Nigerians shouldn’t be taking any English test, the school has now granted the waiver.
He further claims that Nigerian schoolchildren receives lectures in English from the primary to the university levels
and this proves the nation is an English-speaking one.

He also asserted that there is no need for further tests because English is Nigeria’s official business language.
The school revised the list in response to the letter since it now recognizes Nigeria as an English-speaking nation.
Dr. IgbalajobI stated it is not good that nations colonized by Britain
still require to provide evidence of their English language proficiency
“It’s bad to request IELTS from African countries colonized by the British. I have written about 12 universities till date. I will continue to identify universities with stale lists and those who wouldn’t recognize Nigeria as an English speaking country.”
