Asisat Oshoala plies her club career with FC Barcelona Women in Spain. She won the prestigious CAF Women’s player of the year award held in Rabat, Morocco, Thursday, July 21, 2022.
Interestingly, Asisat Oshoala had previously won the CAF Women’s player of the year award in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019.
Hence, with this victory, Asisat Oshoala has entered the history books as CAF Women’s Greatest player! The 27-year-old Super Falcon’s star beat competition from Ajara Nchout Njoya of Cameroun and Grace Chanda of Zambia. Ajara Nchout plies her club career with Inter Milan while Grace Banda plays for BIIK Kazygurt.

However, her participation was cut short by injury in the Super Falcon’s first group game against South Africa. They lost that game 2-1 to the Bayana Bayana of South Africa.

With this award, Asisat Oshoala has overtaken Perpetual Nkwocha as Africa’s Women’s Greatest player. Recall that Perpetual Nkwocha had won the CAF Women’s player of the year award on four occasions.
Impressively, the pacy Nigerian forward scored 20 goals in 19 league appearances last term. Asisat Oshola emerged joint top scorer in the Spanish women league alongside Brazilian Geyse Ferreira of Madrid CFF. In contrast, the Brazilian scored the same number of goals but in 37 appearances.
