The Nigerian Army has banned the use of motorcycles in the north-western states of the country.

The acting Director of the Army Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, stated that the Nigerian army has banned the use of motorcycles in the north-western states  of the country.

In a statement made on Sunday, he said that this was done due to the increased rate of kidnapping and banditry in the region.

He stated that the states affected were: Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger.

The Army spokesman warned that anyone found with motorcycles will be taken as a criminal and will face the consequences.

He therefore made an appeal to the various state governors to help ensure that the bans be adhered to.

He promised that the military will stop the deadly activities of bandits  from operating in the affected regions.
