So Lagosians! Get ready because the 3rd Mainland Bridge will be closed on Friday 24th July 2020
Recall that we brought you news earlier about the bridge closing down for repairs
The said repairs will be on for the next 6months, so the possibility of the Bridge reopening this year is Zero
Announcing it’s closure, Minister of Works and state Housing Babatunde Fashola said by 12midnight on Friday, the bridge will be closed off.
Fashola further explained that the maintenance of the busiest 3rd Mainland bridge in the country
was aimed at replacing damaged components for a better motoring experience.
The maintenance is to be carried out on a length of 3.5 kilometres out of the 11.8 kilometres of the bridge.
He also acknowledged that the closure will lead to hardship in the short term,
but called on motorists to be patient as it is better to bear six months of work and closure
than to allow the 3rd Mainland bridge to collapse, a development that would take years to fix.
Further to this announcement, the bridge will be closed by 12midnight to be reopened on January 2021
Meanwhile if you live on the island and work on the mainland, or vice versa
You all are advised to use the CMS bridge, and due to the amount of cars using that route
It will be further advisable to make use of a ferry to avoid traffic, that is if you can navigate your way from there.
Also isn’t it funny that the 3rd Mainland bridge will be worked on now?
Many called out the minister of works, and reminded him that the country was on lockdown for close to 3months
And repairs should have started then, not now when many persons go to work
All the same, let everyone get geared up to face the traffic as the 3rd Mainland Bridge gets shut down
